STRATEGIC PLAN

Our last strategic plan was developed in 2017 and it is now time to both revisit the plan and also update the planning for our Capital Works and Equipment expenditure commitments.

I am proposing a planning session open to all members to attend on Thursday, 10th December commencing 4.30pm in the IBC.  We will quickly review our existing priorities and update where necessary before moving on to the the main items likely to be required over the next few years.  We will also take the opportunity to outline some possible options for the Club, both for the Grass and the IBC, and seek your input into forming plans that develop the full potential of the Howrah Bowls Club.  I have attached the current 2017 Strategic Plan document and draft Capital Works plan for the IBC to give you some background information for the meeting.

Please try and attend this planning session if you are able to do so as your input is essential for the Committee of Management to put a good plan in place for the next 5 year period.  We will be opening the bar from 5pm and should wrap up the planning session around 6pm when we can order in some pizzas and see the evening out.

Hope to see you there –  Stephen Foster, President, Howrah Bowls Club

The club held the Christmas lunch today

It went off extremely well with a good mix of members and barefoot bowlers. A wonderful club gathering.

The club championships are up and running with some very close games. Please arrange your matches as soon as possible so we are not having to ring around to get them played.

This Thursday coming there is a strategic planning meeting being held at the indoor centre at 4.30 pm.  This is to continue open discussion on future improvements to our bowls area.

It is open all interested members, so please attend to have your input.

Following the meeting we are having a pizza night and drinks – so stay on and enjoy.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM BOWLS SOUTH

You would be aware that BTS included a reference to Bowls Australia’s Greens Protection Policy again in this year’s Conditions of Play – a copy of the Bowls Australia policy is attached for your information.

BTS in particular is concerned that the actions of some bowlers may be causing damage to synthetic greens.   Many BTS Clubs have invested significant resources into their synthetic greens and some are noticing some imperfections in the playing surface as a result of players dumping bowls or throwing their bowls from the bank onto the green at the start of the game.     Such dumping of bowls can cause damage to the underlying structure of the synthetic greens which cannot be easily rectified without significant cost to these Clubs.

Damage to greens by dumping of bowls is not limited to synthetic greens – grass greens can also be damaged by dumping of bowls, particularly early in the season when greens are soft

BTS would encourage Clubs to take steps to ensure that no further damage occurs to greens as a result of members whose bowling actions are causing damage to such greens.  Clubs are requested to work with their own members with suspect bowling actions and get to get them to modify their delivery or consider using a bowling arm.

Clubs are reminded that any Club is entitled to enforce the Bowls Australia’s Greens Protection Policy.   In the first instance Clubs should advise the offending player that they intend to report them for causing damage to their green and advise BTS accordingly in writing.   BTS will then take appropriate action in consultation with the players own Club.   Clubs have no authority without approval from the Controlling Body (that is Bowls Tasmania South) to retire a player from the same game if the player continues to damage the green.

Can you please advise all your members accordingly.
